Drumming in the Myst is NOT your typical drum circle. In this unique soundshop, Daniel Barber will guide us through an exploration of drumming and sound-making rooted in improvisation, rhythm, and technique.  You'll taste a lively gumbo of science and mysticism, music and meditation, drumming and humming.

Intelligent + talented people often struggle with themselves and others without ever knowing why. Through connecting with the freedom and creativity of music, we can build confidence + authenticity. The magic of music can help you tune to your natural self, and bridge a path where all of yourself is welcomed, heard, and appreciated. Don't miss the opportunity to explore new possibilities for navigating the world and your own potential!

Students are encouraged to bring their own instruments, but some hand drums will be available. You're welcome to bring anything that makes noise- drums, fiddles, didgeridoo, or whatever vibrates with your soul!

About Daniel:

Daniel has been a social worker, social scientist, video producer, political activist, musician, and ritual leader.  He led the Jubilee! World Beat Band in Asheville from 2001-2021, playing a wide variety of music for the Sunday celebrations.  For 10+ years, he led a wedding/dance band, performed with Asheville Playback Theatre (improv actor & musician), and played in several African, Brazilian, and Afro-Cuban percussion groups in Asheville.

Since 2014, he has been guiding people who feel stuck and out of tune with an innovative modality he created called SoundYourSelf.  SYS integrates mindful awareness practices with a unique piano improv technique that helps them to release old unhelpful patterns and to access and express their natural gifts. Daniel is grateful to get to teach this SoundYourSelf practice that can open a fun and rewarding pathway to embody your deeper purpose and fully inhabit your true place.
