07.29.18 // Home Garden Medicine Making with Dov Shoneman // 5:30-7:30pm

Using plants as medicine has been a primary source of healthcare for people and cultures around the world for thousands of years. It is our birthright, one could say. As we remember, re-learn and return to our roots of working with plants as medicine, we can connect with a skill that was instinctual and natural to all of our ancestors. Making medicine from your own garden can be simple, easy and fun. In this class you will learn how to make medicated herbal oils, salves and tinctures. These herbal preparations are therapeutic in their application and are fun to make, share and use with the whole family. Medicinal properties and actions of local plants will be discussed as we explore our abundant local herbal allies. All participants in this class will take home an herbal salve, a tincture and the knowledge of how to make these preparations at home.

$30-$50 sliding scale, including a tincture and herbal salve.  There will be an additional $5 fee to register at the door.

Dov Shoneman is an herbalist, educator and licensed practitioner of Chinese medicine. At the age 3, he began experiencing the power of plants as medicine as his mother used comfrey poultices on his knee that was injured in a car accident. Years later, Dov would dive deep into studying herbal medicine, cultivating clinical experience and knowledge in the areas of Western herbalism, Chinese medicine and Ayurveda. Dov studied at Zhejiang TCM University in Hangzhou, China, and earned a master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Five Branches University in Santa Cruz, CA. He currently is the garden supervisor and also clinical supervisor at Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medical Arts. He is an educator in the herbal products industry and has a private acupuncture practice in downtown Asheville. Dov lives with his wife and their 3 amazing children in West Asheville surrounded by plants that have been used as medicine for thousands of years.
