As the weather cools and the days shorten, the plants turn inward and so must we. Slowing down and checking in with our own bodies and minds is imperative for optimum health in the long winter months. Join us on this wintery eve as we discuss various winter ails such as colds and flues or the winter blues, and how to use our herbal friends as allies for health and well-being. In our biodiverse region, we are surrounded with plant offerings to preserve and utilize as the world turns still and cold.

In this workshop, we’ll learn how to use Appalachian folk herbalism for seasonal health, including a demo and discussions on making wildcrafted elderberry sumac syrup and herbal immune boosting vinegars. We’ll delve into using herbs and spices to make our foods more medicinal, how to support and maintain a strong immune system, and how to make a soothing chest rub salve to relieve congestion. Each attendee will leave with a vapor rub salve of their own.

Her medicines can be procured under the moniker Wooden Spoon Herbs, with herbal zines and native plant hydrosols forthcoming in 2017.
