The art of growing vegetable crops will vary based on location. This class will focus on growing vegetables in Asheville. We will review our area's specific planting dates, pests, diseases, and garden resources. In addition, learn how some of Asheville's farmers and backyard gardeners have dealt with the gardening challenges present in our region. Participants will take home an Asheville planting guide.

Kate Hanford is a gardener and a local foods advocate. Her history includes directing an Asheville farmer’s market and managing both educational farms and garden demonstration sites. In her most recent experience, she worked as the site manager at Ashevillage Institute, an Eco-urban homestead, where she explored creative back-yard garden designs and taught classes on growing vegetables, composting, mushroom production, and other homestead systems. $15 per person, includes planting guide.
